THE SHOW

Rochester's Mayhem Dance joins forces with New Jersey based mla | Format Dance for an evening of arresting physicality and thought provoking choreography. 

​

Curated by artistic directors Caitlin E. Mahon and Marissa Aucoin, this concert will feature works by the companies as well as guest choreographers from Raritan Valley Community College (NJ).

Artistic Director: Marissa L. Aucoin

mla | Format Dance is a New Jersey based dance collective committed to creating collaborative performance projects. Their diverse range of repertory presents dance in a variety of formats as it works in conversation with other disciplines in an effort to create impactful, thought provoking art.  

MAYHEM DANCE

Artistic Director: Caitlin Mahon

Mayhem Dance is a Rochester based dance company that employs physically rigorous choreography to showcase human beings executing incredible feats, not effortless ones. Audiences are encouraged to  to be inspired and curious about the physical capabilities we all have as human beings. Mayhem Dance believes art can catalyze others to rise up—metaphorically and literally - and utilizes the body as a vehicle for change.

FEATURED COLLABORATOR: GENEVIEVE HOELER

Genevieve Hoeler is a New Jersey/New York based theater director and actor. Most recently, she directed and adapted ReThink Theatrical's production of "Macbeth." Other credits include lead writer and acting director for ReThink Theatrical's "Stages: A Legacy in Review," assistant director for Two River Theater's 2016-2017 theatrical season, director and fight choreographer to short play, "Shoot to Kill," in the Fearless Productions Short play festival "Kicking and Swearing," and acting roles in OCC Repertory's productions of "Twelfth Night" (Feste and composer) and "Dancing at Lughnasa" (Maggie). Bachelor degree received from George Mason University.

FEATURED GUEST ARTIST: LORETTA FOIS

Loretta Fois is a 2011 and 2017 NJ State Council of the Arts Choreography Fellow and Director of Dance at Raritan Valley Community College. Her work has been performed at venues including: Joe’s Pub, DUMBO, Ailey Citigroup Theatre, Greenspace, YourMove Festival, the Cunningham Studio, and Gowanus Arts. She has danced with Claire Porter, Sabatino Verlezza, Dancing in the Streets, Andrew Jannetti, and has performed with various artists including Ellen Cornfield, Pat Graney, Ralph Lemon, Creach/Koester, and Stephen Koplowitz. Loretta is Vice President of Education for Dance NJ, was a Teaching Artist for NJ Department of Education, an Artist in Residence for the PaperMill Playhouse, and on the Writing Team for the revision of the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards in Dance. From 2011-2013 she studied Dalcroze and Espressione Corporea in Rome, Italy. Loretta received her MFA in Dance from Ohio State University, and her BA in Theatre/Chemistry from Holy Cross.

FEATURED GUEST ARTIST: NATHAN FORSTER

An East Coast transplant from California, Nathan Forster is extremely excited to have the opportunity to choreograph and perform. Nathan has danced for choreographers Nina Haft, Michael J. Lee, Stephanie Beauchamp, Loretta Fois, and is a founding member of the Slick Babble Dance Project/Emmeline Gonzalez Beban. He has also had the extraordinary pleasure of presenting and performing work at the American College Dance Conference and Dance Mission SF emerging choreographer's festival. He is currently working toward furthering his
work as a dance educator and becoming a Physical Therapy Assistant while growing in the Dance AFA at Raritan Valley Community College. Nathan received a BA in Theater from Drew
University.
